Non-smoking restaurants and cafes in Tokyo

Japan tightened indoor-smoking rules in 2020; most restaurants are non-smoking, with designated smoking rooms still permitted in some venues. Tokyo is the capital of Japan and one of the world's most populous cities, with an exceptionally dense and varied restaurant scene spread across its many distinct wards and neighborhoods. Key dining concentrations include Shinjuku, with its sprawling network of izakayas, ramen shops, and restaurants across both the east and west sides of the station; Shibuya and its surrounding streets; the upscale dining areas of Ginza and Roppongi; the traditional low-rise restaurant streets of Asakusa; and Akihabara and Ueno for more casual dining. Tokyo's food culture spans izakayas (informal Japanese pubs), ramen shops, sushi counters, tempura restaurants, and a broad range of international cuisine. Kissaten (traditional Japanese coffee shops) coexist with modern specialty coffee cafes across all neighborhoods.
