Non-smoking restaurants and cafes in Cairo

Egypt does not have a comprehensive national indoor smoking ban; smoking is legally restricted in some public buildings and enclosed spaces, but enforcement is inconsistent and smoking in cafes and restaurants remains common in practice. Shisha (hookah) culture is deeply embedded, and many venues openly permit it indoors.

Cairo is Egypt's capital and the largest city in Africa by population. Cafes and restaurants are concentrated in several distinct areas: downtown Cairo (Wust el-Balad) around Talaat Harb Square, the Zamalek district on Gezira Island, the Mohandiseen and Dokki neighborhoods on the west bank, and the older Islamic Cairo area around Al-Muizz Street and Khan el-Khalili. The traditional ahwa (coffeehouse) is a central part of Cairo's social life, serving strong tea, Turkish-style coffee, and shisha — making non-smoking venues a minority worth cataloging specifically.

The directory currently has no verified non-smoking venues listed for Cairo. Use the map to explore what has been submitted or to add a venue.
