Non-smoking restaurants and cafes in Athens

Greece banned indoor smoking in 2010; enforcement has tightened in recent years, though some venues still tolerate it. In Athens, compliance varies — larger restaurants and newer cafes tend to observe the ban, while some smaller kafeneia and neighborhood bars remain less consistent.

Athens is Greece's capital and a large urban center with a deeply embedded cafe culture built around the kafeneio — the traditional Greek coffee house serving Greek coffee, freddo espresso, and frappe. Dining and cafe activity is spread across several distinct areas: Plaka, the old neighborhood below the Acropolis with restaurants along Adrianou street, is the most tourist-concentrated zone. Monastiraki and Psyrri, adjacent to the central market area, have a higher density of tavernas and mezedopolia. Kolonaki, on the slopes of Lycabettus hill, is known for upmarket cafes and restaurants. Exarcheia and Koukaki attract a younger crowd with independent cafes and casual dining.

The directory currently lists 154 verified non-smoking venues in Athens. Use the map to browse by neighborhood.
